International Application Process
International Relations Office
An international student is any non-immigrant individual in the United States for the purpose of study at an American college or university.
From Application to Arrival
New Students
Prospective international students who will be applying for a visa in their home country to study in the U.S. to study at Otero Junior College or who will be applying for a “Change of Status” in the United States to F-1.
- Application is submitted before July 15 for the fall term and November 15 for the
spring term.
- Online Application or Paper Application
- Passport ID Page
- Proof of H.S. completion
- Proof of English language ability (see options for providing proof below)
- Proof of ability to cover 1 year of educational expenses
- OJC reviews and makes sure all materials and determine acceptance.
- Accepted: I-20 & Acceptance letter sent by mail or FedEx as requested. "Welcome to the OJC Family" email sent to verify address and provide next steps.
- Denied: The International Office will contact you and let you know what issues there were and what you can do to correct them to be accepted.
- Student pays SEVIS fee ($350 I-901 fee).
- Schedules VISA Interview with U.S. Embassy or Consulate and pays applicable visa fees
- Approved: Congratulations! It’s time to finish your preparations.
- Denied: If you are denied and there is adequate time, you can apply again. Make sure to get a reason as often sometimes providing additional proof to satisfy concerns that the Embassy Official had when conducting your interview will allow your second attempt to be successful. If you are unable to successfully apply for a visa, you will not be able to attend OJC as an F-1 student.
- Schedule flight to arrive on the date indicated on the Arrival Information Form. The International Office will make arrangements to pick you up from the Denver International Airport on this day only.
- Submit the following forms that came with your welcome/forms packet
- Arrival Information form (Submit by August 10/January 2)
- Medical History form with immunization record (Submit by August 10/January 2)
- Housing Application (Submit by July 1/January 1)
Welcome to OJC!
Transferring Credit
From a college or university outside the U.S.
You must utilize a foreign credential evaluation service that compares your previous work, compiles a report and allows us to consider your coursework for transfer to Otero Junior College. Visit the SPANTRAN credential evaluation page for Otero Junior College.
From a U.S. college or university
Coursework from accredited institutions can be transferred to Otero Junior College by submitting an official transcript directly from that institution or presented to the Registrar's Office in an envelope with an unbroken seal from the student's former institution.
All transcripts and credential evaluation reports for students seeking transfer credit should be sent directly to the registrar's office.

Transfer Students
Prospective international students who are currently studying in the U.S. on an F-1 and will be transferring their SEVIS (immigration) record to OJC.
- Complete Application is submitted
- Online Application or Paper Application
- Passport ID Page
- Proof of H.S. completion
- Proof of English language ability (see options for providing proof below)
- Proof of ability to cover 1 year of educational expenses
- Copy of former I-20 documents
- Copy of visa stamp
- Completed transfer form
- OJC reviews and makes sure all materials and determine acceptance.
- Accepted: "Welcome to the OJC Family" email sent to verify address and provide next steps. The U.S. institution that you are transferring from will be requested to release your SEVIS record. Upon the release of your record to OJC, your I-20 will be created and be sent to you or held for you until your arrival on-campus.
- Denied: The International Office will contact you and let you know what issues there were and what you can do to correct them to be accepted.
- Schedule flight to arrive on the date indicated on the Arrival Information Form for orientation. The International Office will make arrangements to pick you up from the Denver International Airport on this day only.
- Submit the following forms that came with your Welcome Email:

- Medical History form with immunization record (Submit by August 10/January 2)
- Housing Application (Submit by July 1/January 2)
Welcome to OJC!
Options for Proving English Language Abilities
International students are required to show proof of English language ability in order to gain admission to Otero Junior College.
Attended a high school or college at an institution where English is the primary language of instruction. Verification letter from the school may be required.
- TOEFL Test Minimums: PBT 500; iBT 60
- IELTS Test Minimum: 5.5
- Step EIKEN Test: 2nd Grade A
- GTEC CBT Recognition Form: 1050
- PTE Academic: 44
- Other proof will be considered case by case
Options for Providing Proof of Financial Support
International students are required to show proof of the ability to cover a minimum of one year of educational expenses. The current amount students need to show proof of is $18,120 USD.

- Bank statement/letter with affidavit of support from the account holder.
- Government sponsorship letter
- Scholarship Letter
- Letter of Intent (Athletic Scholarships)
