Coach Chris Carrillo

Head Baseball Coach Chris Carrillo

Chris Carrillo is into his ninth season as the Rattlers Head Baseball Coach. A 2000 Pueblo Central graduate, Carrillo is an OJC alumnus who played on the 2001 Region IX Championship Team. He was an NJCAA All-American infielder.

After graduating from OJC in 2002, Carrillo went on to play at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Carrillo completed his bachelor’s degree in sociology at Adams State College in 2006 and his master’s degree in physical education in 2010. Carrillo was Otero’s assistant coach for four years prior to being named head coach and has been at Otero for a total of 13 years as a coach.

During his tenure as the head coach at Otero, Carrillo has placed 61 players to four-year institutions including 5 to Division I schools and 1 to the Toronto Blue Jays in 2015. He has coached 2 Athletic All-Americans, 41 Athletic All-Region Players and 8 Academic All-American student-athletes.

Carrillo’s philosophy behind winning baseball games is simple. He believes that good things happen to good people who work hard. If each individual takes the responsibility upon themselves to strive to be the best that they can be in every aspect of the game, more can be accomplished as a team.

"There is simply no substitute for hard work,” said Carrillo. “Out- working our opponents is what motivates us to go out to the field every day. I believe that having this mental toughness is an extreme advantage at the end of the season when we are playing for the Region IX title."

Carrillo takes pride in watching the players that he has coached succeed on and off the field. "Being in a position to help student athletes reach their immediate goals and set goals for the future is what I enjoy most,” said Carrillo.

Coach Carrillo is married to Janet and they have two beautiful daughters in Mia, 7 and Chloe, 4.
