Nathan Howell Named Head Softball Coach

Otero College has announced that Nathan Howell will be the Head Softball Coach. Formerly the assistant coach for Otero’s Baseball team, Howell has over 16 years of experience coaching at the high school and collegiate levels, including; Mountain View High School, Frederick High School, and McPherson College. He is also the managing partner and co-founder of NoCo Roughnecks Baseball Club out of Erie, Colo.

A native of Brighton, Colo., Howell is excited to take on his new role. He is a graduate of Colorado State University with a degree in history and an emphasis in education.

In addition to his coaching skills Howell has worked to develop and implement programs that assist 1st generation and underserved students and is Otero College’s Bueno HEP Coordinator.

With the exception of some time spent in Indiana and Kansas, Howell is a lifetime, sixth generation, Coloradan. He has two daughters, ages 13 and 15, as well as twin 24 year old sons. Some of his hobbies include hunting and fishing, traveling, he is a big movie buff, but most importantly, he enjoys spending time with his children.

Chris Carrillo, Otero Athletic Director, said, “Nathan is going to be a great fit for this job. We were fortunate to already have him here on campus as the Assistant Baseball coach, so his transition to Head Softball coach has been smooth. He has already proven himself as a solid recruiter, meeting the challenge of recruiting late in the season.”
