Former OJC Basketball Player Competed in NCAA Tournament

Chudier Bile, former Otero Junior College men’s basketball forward played in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) tournament for the Georgetown University Hoyas this past week. While they had an early exit from the tournament, it was an amazing accomplishment to make it that far.

Bile, from Denver, played at Otero in the 2016-2018 seasons under former head coach, Brendan O’Connor. At 6’ 7”, Bile made a great addition to the OJC team before moving on to Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. He then played his senior season at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, La., and earned Second-Team All-Southland Conference honors and led their team with 14.3 points per game (ppg), 7.6 rebounds per game (rpg) and 41 blocks. Currently, Bile is a member of the Georgetown University Hoyas. According to their website, he averages 12.4 ppg and 6.0 rpg, while shooting 54.9 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from 3-point range.

Still donning the number 4 jersey, Bile had 10 points in their final game of the season against the Colorado Buffaloes at Hinkle Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, Ind. With Colorado ranked as the number five seed and Georgetown coming in at number 12, Bile’s coach, Patrick Ewing, expressed that he was very proud of his team. Georgetown made the NCAA Tournament for the first time since the 2014-15 season this year. The Hoyas went 7-9 in BIG EAST play, before winning four games in four days to win the 2021 BIG EAST Tournament for the program's league-best eighth title.

According to Gary Addington, former athletic director and current dean of students, “Chudier was a great asset to OJC. Not only was he a great athlete but he was an excellent student. When the team played at the national tournament, he was a big part of the reason why we did so well. He’s a great all-around student athlete and we’re excited to see how far he’s taken his basketball career.”
