OJC Announces New Employees for Fall 2020

The fall semester at Otero Junior College is now in full swing after unprecedented spring and summer semesters. Throughout that time, OJC has hired several new employees and a couple people have moved into new positions within the college.

Breanne Buchner has recently been hired at OJC as sports information and social media coordinator. Buchner is an OJC alumna graduating with her Associate of Science in May 2017. While at OJC, she was a member of the golf team and qualified for the National Championships both years. She completed her Bachelor’s Degree at Adams State University in August 2019 in Interdisciplinary Studies of Biology and Business. Buchner is familiar with athletics and has experience in promoting that and other businesses through social media. She believes that this form of marketing will elevate OJC to increase recruiting support, help with fund development, and encourage sponsors while increasing student and community involvement.

Tammie Clark, nursing faculty, is also an OJC alumna and began nursing 24 years ago on the medical/surgical unit. Clark was a school nurse supervisor, has worked in leadership as a Director of Nursing for Hospice, and has also worked in public health. Before coming to OJC, Clark’s employment has been in progressive integrate health through Crossroads. She obtained her BSN and is now enrolled in a Master of Science program in Nursing. Teaching has been a part of every position she has had as a nurse and feels that these experiences have helped lead her to a faculty position at OJC.

Randy Fritz has joined OJC and works as part of grounds and nursery. He most recently worked for the City of Las Animas as a water and wastewater treatment operator, this included water sample testing, computer operations of water plant systems, and checking pump stations. Fritz also has experience using and maintaining large equipment and has provided maintenance for city parks and sprinkler systems. OJC is grateful to have him.

Kyle Hart has been at OJC since early in the spring semester. Hart worked as a temporary custodian and has now been hired to a full-time position. Hart is an OJC alumnus. His experiences include working with town management doing grounds keeping, office cleaning, file sorting, road maintenance, and water facility maintenance. Hart is also interested in technology and how things work. He really enjoys working and interacting with people at OJC.

Garrett Palmer is also a familiar face on campus, previously working for SODEXO in the Venom Pit as a Barista, the O Stop in the Student Center, and as a temporary custodian. This spring he also accepted a full-time custodian position. Palmer is an OJC alumnus. He has been a painter and worked with electrical and maintenance. He is detail oriented and notices small things that others may not. He likes to discover what products work better in cleaning for different jobs and is always looking at how his can make an area nicer.

Courtney Stuart is also joining OJC as a member of the nursing faculty. She has most recently worked at OJC as a part-time instructor for first-year students in the clinical setting on the medical surgical floor. Stuart is excited to work full-time and hopes to convey her passion for nursing to students. She believes she can help students build a knowledge base that will provide confidence in their career and provide the very best care possible. Stuart received her Bachelors of Nursing from Colorado State University-Pueblo in 2013 and is working towards her Masters in the Science of Nursing at the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.
