BUENO High School Equivalency Program to Offer Online Courses

 

As COVID-19 has affected the rest of the nation, the BUENO High School Equivalency Program hosted at Otero Junior College, is no exception. The method of delivery for instruction and tutoring has been restructured to accommodate essential changes. Through the University of Colorado, the program is now offering online classes in both English and Spanish. This online service consists of a curriculum-based learning management system as well as face-to-face assistance and structured instruction via Zoom.

Students interested in enrolling in the BUENO High School Equivalency Program must be 17 or older and no longer enrolled in a high school.

The University of Colorado at Boulder, School of Education (BUENO programs) and Otero Junior College (Continuing Education) in La Junta are in collaboration of a federally funded grant program known as HEP (high school equivalency program). In 2019, the School of Education and the BUENO Center for Multicultural Education was granted five years of funding to develop and implement the BUENO High School Equivalency Program (BUENO-HEP) for migrant and seasonal farm workers who work and reside in the Arkansas Valley, the San Luis Valley or in the Platte River Valley.

Those that are currently working in an agriculturally related job, have worked in such a job within the previous 24 months, or have a close family member who has are asked to contact Marian Morris, coordinator and instructor at marian.morris@ojc.edu or marian.morris@colorado.edu.
