Abbey Wehrman Named Assistant Volleyball Coach at OJC

Otero Junior College welcomes Abbey Wehrman to the position of Assistant Volleyball coach. Wehrman, a former Rattler, received her Associate of Science degree from Otero Junior College in 2017. She then went on to play volleyball for East Central University, while earning her Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology.

When asked what brought Wehrman back to OJC, she stated, “I loved the sense of family that was created. Everyone in the athletic department supported each other. Every teacher also wanted to see their students succeed. They knew their students and connected with them.” While at OJC, Wehrman wants to contribute to the winning culture that Head Volleyball Coach Jordan Willis has created and is thankful to begin her coaching career at the same school she started her college playing career at.

A native of Kersey, Colo., Wehrman grew up playing numerous sports including, volleyball, basketball and track. Raised by parents who were both coaches, athletics have always been a prominent fixture in her and her brother, Trevon’s lives. When her competitive days came to an end at East Central University, Wehrman knew that she still wanted to be a part of the game of volleyball. She stated that her main goal “is to coach college volleyball as long as I can then transition into an administrative position within an athletic department.”

Wehrman is currently working towards her Master’s Degree in Sports Administration. In her spare-time she enjoys the outdoors, watching her brother play football for Chadron State, and playing volleyball or basketball.
