TRiO Grant Aid Applications due April 26


TRiO Grant Aid applications are now available on the Otero Junior College website by searching for TRiO in the search bar or by going directly to These applications are due by April 26, 2020. Students must have been in the TRiO program for a minimum of two prior semesters to qualify.

According to Todd Werner, director of student support services, “We have money in our budget to award TRiO students grant aid for Fall Semester. Students must complete the application, write a letter explaining how the funding would help them accomplish their goals, then submit for scoring.”

In addition to describing how the funding will assist them in successfully completing their college degree, they must also explain how it will help them to stay enrolled at OJC or transfer to another institution, how it will help them reduce unmet financial need, and how it would help them reduce their need for student loans.

The minimum award for qualifying individuals is $650 and can be as much as $2,500 depending on need and other criteria.

TRiO - Student Support Services (SSS) is a federally funded TRiO Program under the U.S. Department of Education. The program is focused toward students who have one or more of the following factors: first-generation, low-income or disabled.

The goal of the program is to increase the college retention and graduation rates of its participants and help students make the transition from one level of higher education to the next.
