Otero’s Leah Mafua Makes All-American Honorable Mention List

 

Leah Mafua had an excellent freshman year making the 2019-20 NJCAA Division I Women’s Basketball All-American Honorable Mention list.

Athletes are awarded the distinction of All-American for outstanding performances during the season and are often considered to be the best players in their division.

All-American selections are made by the NJCAA Division I Women's Basketball Committee.

In addition, Mafua was recently named to the World Exposure Honorable Mention All-American list on March 22, as well as being named Player of the Week by the NJCAA in late January.

Mafua, an international student hailing from Wellington, New Zealand, finished her freshman season with a field goal percentage of 47.7 averaging 18.7 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.9 assists per game.

During OJC’s game against North Platte on Jan. 25, Mafua recorded a triple-double, tallying 21 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists during the game.

Mafua’s performance against North Platte helped propel her to being named NJCAA Division I Player of the Week for Women’s Basketball, during the week of Jan. 20-26.
