Ag Gala Rings in New Year Western Style

The 8th annual Otero Junior College Foundation New Year’s Eve Ag Gala was once again a success, according to committee members. The evening was filled with western dancing, beef brisket dinner, live and silent auction items, beer boots, and gourmet chocolates. With the help of thirty-three sponsors and the donations brought in from the auctions, the OJC Foundation was able to raise just over $12,000 for agriculture scholarships this year.

Ag Gala Chairman Brooke Matthew was pleased with the continuous support the event has received over the years. “The Ag Gala has maintained the support of the community, especially the agriculture families and businesses to help us go over our goal for this year’s event. We appreciate and could not continue to offer agriculture scholarships without this support,” said Matthew.

OJC and the Ag program would like to thank all of the amazing sponsors that made the night possible and donated their evening to raise money for agriculture scholars as well as raise awareness for the OJC agriculture program.

Platinum sponsors of the Ag Gala included; Colorado Vet Clinic, Farm Credit of Southern Colorado, The State Bank, Waddell and Reed Investment Services, Wallace Oil Company, and Welch Cattle Company. Next, the Gold sponsors; JLH Electrical LLC., La Junta Livestock Commission, Matthew Farms, Pipeyard, Silveus Insurance, Ordway Cattle Feeders, Dave Lewis Trucking, 4 Rivers Equipment, and WW Feed and Supply. The Silver sponsors including; La Junta Mill and Elevator, Arc Valley Construction, Crowder Ranch, SODEXO, OJC, Winter Livestock, and North by Southeast Ranches. The Turquoise level sponsors; Broce’s Well Service, Jake and Kristi Mayo, Brenten and Samme Ormiston, Ray and Jennifer Hall, Fowler State Bank, and Dairy Queen. Finally, donators of Heimerick Farms, SECO Ranch Planning, United Feeders, and John and Laurie Knapp.

The OJC Ag program is thankful for all of their Ag Gala sponsors and their contributions. Their continuous support and donations are greatly appreciated. The program looks forward to awarding scholarships to next year’s recipients as they continue their education in agriculture. The scholarship deadline is April 1. The Ag Program also looks forward to seeing everyone at the new Ag Building remodel open house at 4 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, 2020.

“The night was full of friends, colleagues, and family who are all a part of the OJC community that rang in the New Year for a great cause.” Matthew said.
