OJC Announces George as Assistant Wrestling Coach


Otero Junior College announced that Tommy George started as the assistant wrestling coach on Sept. 16.

George was born and raised in Colorado Springs, Colo., and has been wrestling since he was 6 years old. George trained under some of the best technicians in the world, including Angel Cejudo, Mitch Hull, Mike McArthur, and Ramico Blackmon. During the summer of 2008, he trained at the Olympic Training Center with the Women’s Olympic Wrestling team.

At the high school level, George was a three-time regional finalist, 2011 Regional Champion, 4-time State Qualifier, and state placer at 119 pounds. He was a member of the 2009 5A State Runner-up team and the 2011 5A State Championship team. He graduated from Coronado High School in 2011.

After graduating, he underwent surgery and took the year off from athletics before playing rugby for the University of Northern Colorado. He earned his bachelor’s degree from UNC in Sport and Exercise Science with a minor in Coaching. He has three years of coaching experience at Skyline High School in Longmont, Colo.

“My main goal at OJC is to see individual growth and success in my student-athlete’s academic careers.” George expressed. “Additionally, I am striving to help build a strong wrestling program that will compete at a national level.”

George also enjoys hiking, hunting, yoga, rugby, traveling, and going to concerts and sporting events. He is the youngest of six children and is an uncle to 10.
