OJC Names Matejcek as Art Faculty


Otero Junior College announced That Anna Matejcek will take on the role of art faculty beginning August 19, when fall semester begins, teaching a variety of art classes.

Matejcek received her Bachelor’s degree in Art Education (cum laude) from Maryville University in St. Louis, Mo. and her Master of Fine Arts degree from Boise State University in Boise, ID. She comes to OJC with experience as a kindergarten-eighth grade teacher, where she also served as the set designer for the school drama department. Matejcek taught art and honors seminars during graduate school as well as spending a year teaching a variety of students while running an art business.

“I knew from my first visit to campus that OJC was special,” Matejcek said. “Everyone was, and continues to be, so warm and welcoming. I love that the OJC community is committed to lifting each other and creating positive experiences for all.”

According to Matejcek, her first and primary goal is to provide OJC students with high quality, dynamic, and engaging art classes, which put creative thinking and hands-on learning into action. She also hopes to build up the art club to focus on campus and community public art projects. She also hopes to provide students with multiple opportunities to show art that they have created, as well as view works of other artists.

“August can’t come soon enough; I can’t wait to get started!” Matejcek said.

Matejcek, originally from St. Louis, Mo. will be moving to La Junta with her husband Robert (Bob) Matejcek, who is also an artist. In her spare time she enjoys doing anything artistic; drawing, painting, sculpture, ceramics, video, and photography are among her favorites.

The courses Matejcek will be teaching for the Fall 2019 semester are as follows:

Art Appreciation: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 12 p.m.-12:50 p.m.
Art History Ancient/Medieval: Tuesday, Thursday 1 p.m.-2:15 p.m.
Drawing I: Tuesday, Thursday 9 a.m.-11:40 a.m.
Visual Concepts 2-D Design: Monday, Wednesday 3 p.m.-5:40 p.m.
