Lewis-Gemici Named Small Business Development Director

Earlier this month, Otero Junior College President, Dr. Timothy Alvarez announced Mickie Lewis-Gemici as the new Small Business Development Center Director. Lewis-Gemici officially began her role in the position July 15.

As SBDC Director, Lewis-Gemici will offer business and marketing workshops and classes for students, community members, and anyone that wishes to begin, grow, or plan for a business. With almost 40 years in workforce development, Lewis-Gemici hopes to be a great resource for connecting people and businesses with workforce development opportunities.

“I began my career in entertainment marketing and promotions, and have worked on both the east and west coast, as well as in Denver before I made my way to La Junta,” Lewis-Gemici said. “I fell in love with OJC because of the beautiful campus and state-of-the-art resources. The staff is welcoming, excited, and open to newcomers. My goal in this role is to put the Southeast corner of the state on the map as a destination for education, small business development, and opportunity.”

Lewis-Gemici holds a bachelor’s degree in human services and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. She and her husband, Mark Gemici, value community and intend to make La Junta their forever home. In her spare time, Mickie enjoys refurbishing antiques that she finds at shops and garage sales.
