OJC to Offer Eight-Week Nurse Aide Class Over Summer

Otero Junior College will soon begin its eight-week Nursing Assistant program for Summer Semester, beginning June 3. Enrollment is currently open. Students will complete eight-weeks of class and one week of clinical experience.

The Nursing Assistant program prepares students to work in nursing assistant positions. Students who complete the two-course program successfully are eligible to apply and test for State Nursing Assistant Certification. The Nursing Assistant program complies with the Colorado State Board of Nursing rules for Certified Nurse aide education, training and practice.

According to Lynette Ramirez, coordinator of nursing and allied health, two options of Nurse Aide classes will be offered, one at 1:00-4:50 p.m. or 5:30-9:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. Clinical times will be announced for each course.

“The Nursing Assistant course is a great option for a variety of students,” Ramirez said. “The course can be completed in just eight weeks for working learners looking for a career change, and can also be a great leg-up for students interested in entering a more advanced nursing program in the future.”

Funding may be available for Health Professions Programs through Colorado Workforce for both adults and youth, contact Mark Thompson, Ray Martinez, or Cindy Pulido at 719-383-3191 for more information.
