Spring Semester at OJC to Start Jan. 14 – Register Today

 

Otero Junior College is set for Spring Semester to begin on Jan. 14. Registration will remain open through the week of Jan. 14. To register call 719-384-6800. “We suggest if you haven’t registered yet, you do so as soon as possible.” Jeff Paolucci, vice president of Student Services said. “Classes are filling up quickly so to ensure you get the ones you need, contact us immediately and we will get you registered.”

OJC has several spring-start programs; those include, Welding, Medical Laboratory Technician Program (MLT), Phlebotomy and the Law Academy. In addition, OJC also offers eight-week courses that will start this spring. They include: The Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA) Program, several of the Health Navigator classes are eight-weeks, certain biology classes and history classes are offered for eight-weeks. Students can also begin taking general education classes for any program during spring semester.

The welding program at Otero Junior College is designed to prepare students to obtain entry-level employment in agriculture, production, and maintenance environments, as well as railroad and pipeline industries. This program is designed to allow enrollment of both secondary and post-secondary students.

MLT’s perform routine medical laboratory procedures and tests. They apply preset strategies to record and analyze data which provide physicians with valuable information for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Students can complete the MLT Program through online/hybrid formats, classroom laboratory practice, and supervised clinical experience

Health Navigators assist clients, in a variety of settings serving as facilitators, advocates, and referral professionals linking them to health care and related social services. OJC also offers a distance learning option to become a Health Navigator. This means students can learn from home with full access to OJC faculty for support. An optional Phlebotomy certificate can be obtained by completing the Hematology I course plus the Phlebotomy course. This optional Phlebotomy certificate can be obtained by enrolling in an additional summer semester.

The CNA Program complies with the Colorado State Board of Nursing rules for Certified Nurse Assistants education, training and practice. Students who complete this two-course program successfully are eligible to apply for State Nurse Aide Certification.
