Snow and Cold No Match for OJC New Year’s Eve AG Gala

Otero Junior College’s seventh annual New Year’s Ag Gala was once again a success. The evening events consisted of a live band, and special performance from OJC Ag student and rodeo athlete Kyle Hirakata, dinner provided by SODEXO, a live and silent auction, and dancing. With the help of 28 sponsors and donations brought in from the auctions, the Agriculture Program and OJC Foundation were able to raise just over $11,500 for Agriculture scholarships.

“The New Year’s snow storm was no match for the OJC Agriculture Program as the 7th annual Ag Gala commenced on Dec. 31, Brooke Matthew, OJC agriculture faculty, said. “The night was one to remember with an awesome live auction by auctioneer Jace Honey.”

A few of the live items auction included Colorado Avalanche tickets donated by RMC Distributing sold for $220 and a certificate for a chiropractic treatment and exam donated by County Chiropractic for $175. Two of the silent auction items included a portrait session donated by Mayhoffer Memories for $120 and a western painting donated by Sandy Campion for $325.

According to Matthew the night was full of friends, colleagues, and family who are all a part of the OJC community that rang in the new year for a great cause. “The OJC Foundation and the Agriculture Program would like to thank all of the amazing sponsors that made the night possible and donated their evening to raise money for agriculture scholars as well as raise awareness for the OJC ag program.”

Platinum sponsors include Colorado Vet Clinic, Farm Credit of Southern Colorado, The State Bank, Waddell and Reed Investment Services, and Wallace Oil Company.

Gold sponsors include The Goff Family, JLH Electrical LLC., La Junta Livestock Commission, La Junta Mill and Elevator, Matthew Farms, The Pipeyard, and WW Feed and Supply.
