Dickens Fest Announces Annual Food Drive

This holiday season the Otero Junior College President’s Leadership Program (PLP) is sponsoring the Annual Dickens Fest Food Drive. The food drive will take place from Nov. 12 – 30. During this time, several offices around the OJC campus will act as collection sites for canned and other non-perishable items. Members of the community and OJC staff and students are asked to deliver items to collection sites. All proceeds will benefit Associated Charities, who strives to keep its shelves full of basic staple foods all year long, and have a long history of helping individuals in need. The PLP will also be at the La Junta Walmart on Nov. 25, 2018 to collect food.

According to Samme Ormiston, PLP director, for some individuals, the holidays are a magical time of year, but for some this is a time of worry and questioning if a holiday celebration is even an option. Many are faced with the daily question of how feed their families. This time of the year is perfect for giving to those who truly need extra support.

The following locations on the OJC campus have volunteered to be collection sites:

• PLP Office McBride 128
• The Welcome Center, MacDonald Hall
• Student Services, McBride Hall
• Learning Commons, Wheeler Hall
• IRO Office, Humanities Center
• Fitness Center, McDivitt Center Gym
• SCORE Center, McDivitt Hall
• Rattler’s Den, Student Center

Items that are most needed are:

• Sugar & flour

• Canned fruit
• Canned soup
• Ramen
• Cereal
• Crackers
• Stuffing
• Macaroni & cheese
• Peanut butter & jelly

• Cooking oil

(16 -24 oz)

Members of the OJC President’s Leadership Program (PLP) will arrange delivery of all collected items to Associated Charities here in La Junta, Colorado.
