OJC Pizza and Pepsi with the President

Otero Junior College recently held an event in conjunction with Pepsi to welcome new OJC President Dr. Alvarez. The event was sponsored by Pepsi complete with pizza, Pepsi, and giveaways. Made possible by a grant from the Pepsi Corporation, the event was coordinated by the Otero Junior College Student Life Office, Learning Commons, and Enrollment Management.

The goal of the event was to welcome students to campus and provide them a chance to meet OJC’s new president, Dr. Timothy Alvarez. Pepsi provided marketing grants to several community colleges across Colorado in an effort to promote the Pepsi brand and support unique student life events on campuses.

“I had the most satisfying time connecting with students at the Pizza and Pepsi with the President event.” Dr. Timothy Alvarez, OJC president said. “I was impressed by the turnout of students and staff at the event. Thank you to Pepsi for sponsoring the event and allowing us to socialize over a can of Pepsi and slice of pizza.”

Throughout the lunch hour on Aug. 29, OJC students had the opportunity to visit the Learning Commons and enjoy Pepsi products, eat pizza and visit with President Alvarez. Numerous prizes were also drawn at the event from the pool of students who completed a Passport competition earlier in week that took them around campus to visit different offices and meet people who could provide information and resources to them as they began their academic journey at OJC. Every student that completed the passport challenge received a custom OJC cell phone wallet. Other giveaways included, blow up couches, two mini fridges, a television, and backpacks and duffle bags.

“We are very appreciative of the support that the Pepsi Corporation provided to OJC to help support this special student event,” said Almabeth Kaess, associate vice president of enrollment management. “We know how important it is to help students get acquainted with each other and with our campus the first few weeks of school. It was also a great way for President Alvarez to meet a large number of our students at one gathering. The grant funding from Pepsi allowed us to create this great opportunity to help students meet each other, have some fun, and meet our new president,” Kaess explained.
