Changes Announced to OJC’s 3.0 GPA Scholarship

Otero Junior College is excited to announce changes made to its 3.0 GPA scholarship. Beginning in the fall 2018 semester, students who did not previously have access to the 3.0 GPA scholarship may now qualify to apply.

“We have revamped our 3.0 GPA scholarship to include additional students,” said Angela Moore, OJC financial aid director. According to Moore, the 3.0 GPA Scholarship is now available to not only this year’s graduating high school seniors who have maintained a 3.0 cumulative high school GPA, but also for any first-time students that had a 3.0 cumulative high school GPA, regardless of the year they graduated. “In addition, the scholarship will also be available to current OJC students, and transfer students who have maintained a cumulative 3.0 college GPA,” said Moore.

Before these changes only high school students that graduated in the spring semester from high school, directly before they started at OJC in the fall, were eligible for the scholarship. The scholarship is still only available to Colorado residents, however the scholarship will now include students who graduated with a 3.0 cumulative GPA any year, not just the previous spring semester. The scholarship will also be extended to current OJC students that have a 3.0 cumulative GPA from OJC. These changes affect students that are not already receiving the scholarship. Students who are already receiving the scholarship will continue to receive it as long as they maintain a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

“The 3.0 scholarship has been one of OJC’s largest tuition scholarships for graduates from Colorado high schools over the past ten years. We are excited to be able to open the criteria to include more than just graduating high school seniors in order to assist more students break down the barrier of paying for college,” said Moore.

Students applying for this scholarship must be accepted to OJC by August 1, 2018 and return the scholarship application to OJC Student Services, by August 1, 2018. The application for the scholarship can be found at https://www.ojc.edu/scholarships.aspx.
