Finalists Named in Otero Junior College Presidential Search

 

The Colorado Community College System announced the three finalists in the running for president of Otero Junior College.

The announcement of Jim Rizzuto’s retirement as OJC President began a nationwide presidential search in October 2017. President Rizzuto plans to retire from OJC on July 31, 2018.

The search committee, comprised of college and community representatives, has worked tirelessly to screen and conduct preliminary interviews of applicants in order to identify those most suited to be considered for the role of president.

The three finalists are (in order of last name):

• Dr. Timothy Alvarez, Senior Fellow for NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education
• Dr. Eloy Chavez, Dean of the College of Extended Learning at Northeastern State University in Oklahoma
• Ron Slinger, Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement for Red Rocks Community College and the Executive Director of the Red Rocks Community College Foundation

Presidential candidates will visit the OJC campus on April 3, 2018, and April 4, 2018, to participate in a series of public forums with faculty, staff, and the community. A community reception will also be held April 3, 2018, to allow community constituents, Faculty and staff to learn more about the candidates’ backgrounds and experiences, leadership style, and philosophy on a variety of issues.

The public forums and reception are scheduled as follows:

Dr. Timothy Alvarez Public Forum - OJC Campus, McBride 137 Wednesday, April 4, 2:15 p.m.

All Candidates Community Reception – OJC Campus, Student Center Banquet Hall Tuesday, April 3, 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

All of those who attend the forums and the reception will be asked to complete a feedback form providing their thoughts and input regarding the candidates. The submitted forms will be reviewed by Dr. Nancy McCallin, CCCS President, prior to the final selection of a new president. Feedback from college constituents is highly encouraged and regarded in the decision making process.
