OJC Alum Morgan Minerich to give free music presentation
July 15 event targets 5-18 year olds, open to all
Morgan Minerich, 1992 Otero Junior College alumnus, will present a free music program on Saturday, July 15 from 3-4 p.m. in the Ed Stafford theatre. Though designed for youth ages five – 18 years, all music lovers are welcomed. Following the program, there will be a reception where attendees can play and/or sing or just visit and discuss the arts.
“I will bring several string instruments, keyboard, harmonica and amps,” said Minerich. “I will present the different sounds and approaches with these instruments in relation to songwriting and the creative process. I want the audience to be comfortable interacting and asking lots of questions”
Along the way, Minerich will sing a few songs and provide lots of examples within the artistic journey of a singer-songwriter: guitar and voice; banjo and voice; keyboard and voice; guitar and harmonica; banjo and harmonica; and more.
“My vision is to provide a fun interactive workshop featuring performance, education and a sense of community through the arts,” explained Minerich. “It will be a fun workshop featuring performance and little creative interaction. The arts are so much fun to talk about.”
As Minerich entertains with a few original songs and a few covers, he also plans to lead the group in some simple songs they can sing. Come prepared for a fun, interactive and informational experience in music.
Minerich graduated from OJC with an Associate of Arts degree in ‘92. He was President of Phi Theta Kappa honor society at OJC in ‘91 and ’92 and was chosen for the Who's Who Among American Two-Year Colleges in ’92.
Otero Junior College is excited to welcome back one of its own to campus and grateful for the gift of his music to our community.
