Otero Players’ Bus Stop a collaborative effort
The Otero Players are set to bring their production of Bus Stop by William Inge to the stage April 21, 22, and 23. The production is director Cassidy Litle’s first as the new English/theatre faculty at Otero Junior College. In true theatre form, collaboration drives the production’s success.
Cosmetology students have been researching makeup and hairstyles appropriate to their assigned characters. They have also invested in kits for theatrical makeup and have learned how theatrical makeup differs from daily wear makeup.
As they work within the theatre constructs of lighting, character and setting, the students work toward a different application of the skills they have learned within the Cosmetology program.
Students involved in this aspect of the production include Jaya Mora, Dylann Bruch, Jorge Mayorga, Sarah Patterson, Lisa Leyba and Chelsey Kimsey.
Director Cass Litle’s Theatre Production class was involved in creating the backdrops and set pieces. Work on the production allowed for application of book learning and a final product to showcase what they have learned to the general public.
The production runs April 21, 22, and 23. The Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:00 p.m. while the Sunday show will be a 2:00 p.m. matinee.
In a small diner about 30 miles outside of Kansas City, a storm has come in late at night, closing the road off for the regular bus line that passes through. The passengers must wait it out at the diner, bringing the locals and a strange mix of characters together. As the night turns to morning, each character shares their own backstory, creating a lively mix of drama, romance, and comedy.
The show runs the same weekend as the Picketwire Players’ production of The Great Gatsby. Litle encourages theatre fans to plan well, so they can see both shows. With the Picketwire show running Thursday through Saturday and Otero Players’ show on stage Friday through Sunday, there is adequate opportunity for an unforgettable weekend of theatre.
The Otero Players is an independent project of the Otero Junior College Department of Arts. For more information on the production or Otero Players, contact Cass Litle, OJC English and Theatre Faculty, at (719)384-6851.
An OJC Cosmetology student applies stage makeup to the actors to bring out their characters’ features.
After studying the styles of the time and stage makeup techniques, the students put their knowledge and skills to work. The Otero Players production of Bus Stop by William Inge will run April 21, 22, and 23. The Friday and Saturday shows will begin at 7:00 p.m. while the Sunday show will be a 2:00 p.m. matinee.
