OJC Wrestling ranked #8 in NJCAA poll

At the start of the season the Otero Junior College Wrestling team was ranked 16th in the country according to the NJCAA preseason rankings. After a strong preseason performance, the Rattlers have put together some key wins gaining national attention. In the newest polls (12/05/16) the OJC Wrestling team has moved up to #8 in the NJCAA.

Two wrestlers are also ranked individually. Returning All American Downey Wood is ranked #2 at 141 pounds. Preseason standout Zach Beard is the #1 ranked wrestler in the country at 165 pounds.

"This is a start, but we have a long way to go" said Chris Hacker head wrestling coach. Coach Hacker continues "We have a lot of work to do, but we have the guys that are willing to step up to the challenge."

The Otero Junior College wrestling team will be back in action at home January 20 against #9 ranked Western Wyoming.

Otero Junior College wrestling team is ranked 8th in the NJCAA’s newest poll. In addition to the team ranking, two Otero Wrestlers have also been ranked nationally. Returning All American Downey Wood is ranked #2 at 141 pounds.
