OJC Women’s Soccer season wrap up

The 2016 Otero Women’s Soccer season came to a close in Denver at the Region IX Tournament held at Metro State University on October 28 and 29. The Lady Rattlers came out on top with a 3-1 win against Trinidad State Junior College in the Region IX Semifinal match and advanced to the finals to play against Laramie County Community College (LCCC).

The season ended as they fell to LCCC in the Championship game, 0-5. Despite the loss, the Lady Rattlers maintained their standard of excellence, finishing the regular season with an overall record of 14-3-2, and reaching as high as #12 in national rankings. The Lady Rattlers completed their season as runner-up in Region IX.

Their efforts were recognized by the following 2016 All-Region IX awards:

The 2016 Otero Women’s Soccer team contended in a slate of nine home matches and eight games on the road in regular season play. The Lady Rattler’s were led by a group of captains, which included Chloe Craig (Fr., Glasgow, Scotland); Kayleigh Brough (So., Dundee, Scotland); Caylie Hartman (So., Arvada); and Callie Larson (So., Roy, UT).

The Lady Rattlers opened the season with four games at home, beginning with OJC’s longtime rivals Laramie County Community College. In a tough match against their rivals the Lady Rattlers finished the match with a 3-2 loss. Despite the opening loss, the Lady Rattlers picked up five wins directly following the match against Laramie.

Following the five game winning streak, the Lady Rattlers came out with two ties: one in an away game against Trinidad State 1-1, and the second at home against Western Wyoming 3-3, both in double overtime. The Lady Rattler’s hard work and continued effort paid off as they gained two more wins beating Northeastern Junior College 1-0, and Western Nebraska 5-0.

OJC fell just short in a hard fought and physical battle against Laramie County in Cheyenne, Wyo., losing the game 0-2. With determination, the Otero Women’s Soccer team continued pressing forward, obtaining five more wins, including a notable 2-1 win against the #1 nationally ranked Eastern Florida State, handing them their first loss of the season.

With a second place finish in regular season play, OJC earned the right to host the Region IX Tournament Quarterfinal game at Tiger Stadium. The Lady Rattlers sailed past Western Nebraska with a 4-1 win. They advanced to the Region IX Tournament and reached the Region IX Tournament Final for the fifth consecutive year. The season’s conclusion with an overall record of 14-3-2 brings the program’s all-time record to 67-15-7 since its inaugural year in 2012.
