Otero Men’s Soccer regular season comes to an end
Rattlers will host post season game Oct. 22, at 6 p.m.
On Friday, October 14 and Saturday, October 15, the OJC Men’s Soccer team had their final two games of the regular season. The Rattlers looked to wrap up the season on a positive note by taking two wins over Sheridan and Northwest College and they did just that.
On Friday morning, the Rattlers set the tone for the weekend with a 6-1 victory over Sheridan. Freshman Gimale Essacu received an assist from Blaise Balumwa in the second minute of play, which he tapped into the back of the net to get the Rattlers rolling. Thirteen minutes later, Essacu found the back of the net on a solo goal. Otero dominated the rest of the game, with four goals from Carter Magee, Bryan Hernandez, Salvador Jimenez, and Matt Trevizo. Sheridan College would get a goal of their own from the PK spot in the 82nd minute, but ultimately it was not enough.
Families and friends came together to celebrate the last regular season home game on Sophomore Night on Saturday. The sophomores being recognized on this special night were: Anthony Acosta, Blaise Balumwa, Camden Campbell, Christian Carrillo, Omar Coronel, Jonathan Cuevas, Cesar Delgado, Andres Diaz, Jorge Hernandez, Will Hoskins, Carter Magee, Nick Pallisco, Kaleb Schultz, Owayne Stone, Matt Trevizo and Treydin Winward.
As the ceremony came to an end, the Rattlers were back into business mode, implementing a high tempo game against Northwest College from the very beginning. The first goal came at the feet of Balumwa off of an assist from Trevizo in the 14th minute. The second goal from the rattlers did not come until the 45th minute of play as the ball deflected off of a defender and Jonathan Cuevas struck a sensational 40 yard goal with only 3 seconds left in the half. The rattlers came back out in the second half and displayed another dominating half adding two more goals by Owayne Stone and Trevizo for a final score of 4-0.
As the weekend brought an end to the regular season, the OJC men’s soccer team is now preparing to host the first round of the post season against Northwest College. The game will be at the Tiger Stadium on Saturday, October 22, at 6:00 p.m. It will also be celebrated as a white–out game, so we invite you to come out. There will be free t-shirts and hot dogs for all of our fans.
Sophomore Blaise Balumwa was one of many Rattlers to score goals this weekend in two definitive wins to end regular season play.
