The Otero Junior College Volleyball team defeated Western Nebraska, the previous first ranked team in the nation, Thursday night in a four set match, 25-22, 16-25, 25-22, 25-16.

Sophomore Karina Erreguin led the attack against the Cougars with 18 kills, one solo block, and six assist blocks.
Freshman Beatriz Palmieri de Souza was right there with her, bringing in a double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs. The Lady Rattlers improved to 14-11 overall and 1-0 in Region IX South play.

“I’m so proud of my team as they played great.  Our execution was there and confidence was flowing through each member of the team.  We were prepared and showed it,” said Head Coach Jordan Willis.

Sophomore Libero Abbey Wehrman stayed true to her national ranking in digs, keeping the ball alive for the Rattlers with 12 digs and passing a 2.16 in serve receive.

Setters Kendra Steffen and Taylor Gibson helped the offense with 22 and 16 assists, respectively.

Three players from Western Nebraska finished with double-doubles – Brooke Kaawa, Bia Berta, and Barb Briceno.
