Lady Rattler Soccer off to a strong start

The Lady Rattlers opened their first two weeks of the season strong with 12 goals and 3 shutouts to pick up three wins and one loss putting them at a 3-1 overall record and 2-1 in Region IX.

On Friday, August 26 OJC was set to face their regional rivals Laramie County Community College. OJC kicked off the match with a goal in the first 15 minutes of the game. Coming off a give and go pass, sophomore Cassi Moosburger bypassed a defender finishing with a shot to the back of the net to take the lead.  Laramie quickly responded with a comeback goal from sophomore Jemma House off a set piece tying the game to end the 1st half.

Going into the 2nd half Laramie quickly took advantage of their opportunities as sophomore Sarah Erickson executed a header from the top of the 6 yard box. Laramie used their momentum to follow up with a 3rd goal from a through ball to freshmen midfielder Nikita Woods. The Lady Rattlers closed the gap with a finish from sophomore Estephany Gonzalez bypassing LCCC’s sophomore goalkeeper Jess Urquhart on a one on one matchup. OJC was unable to find the equalizer ending the game in a heartbreaking loss to LCCC 3-2.

On Saturday, August 27 the Lady Rattlers came back out for their second game of the weekend against Western Nebraska Community College. The team set the standard for the 1st half with a goal from outside back Moosburger. Both teams competed to finish the 1st half with OJC on top 1-0. Coming back into the second half, the Lady Rattlers continued to fight and in a collaborative team effort they were able to give sophomore Moosburger her second goal of the game concluding their opening weekend with a 2-0 victory. 

In a quick turnaround, the Lady Rattlers contended against Garden City Community College on Friday, September 2 on their home field at Tiger Stadium. The Lady Rattlers set the tone in the first half obtaining possession and making the most of their shots on goal.

Freshman forward Mattie Alpert finished a nice ball from an assist by outside back Moosburger. Driving forward with ambition midfielder Callie Larson put away OJC’s second goal of the game within minutes from an assist by outside back Taylor Bauer. Shortly following, Alpert scored her second goal of the game from an assist by sophomore Callie Larson.  Alpert earned a hat trick scoring her third and OJC’s final goal of the match in the 79th minute of the game. The Lady Rattlers walked away with a 4-0 win against Garden City Community College to start their two game weekend.

On Saturday, September 3rd the Lady Rattlers set off OJC’s 75th year Anniversary celebration weekend with another 4-0 victory. OJC took on Northeastern Junior College for their fourth home game at Tiger Stadium.  In the 43rd minute of the game sophomore Taylor Bauer scored a beautiful goal assisted by Alpert. NJC was unable to come back to tie the game, ending the 1st half 1-0 OJC. Going into the 2nd half OJC’s center back, freshmen Chloe Craig, scored her first goal of the season from an assist by midfielder MJ Crews. OJC continued to take the lead and in the 61st minute of the match when freshman Crews scored an excellent shot outside the 18 yard box just over the top of NJC’s goalkeeper Katie Saunders. The Lady Rattlers worked together maintain the lead as center back Craig achieved her second and OJC’s final goal of the game. 

The Lady Rattlers will be on the road for this weekend’s upcoming games. OJC will take on Northwest College Friday, September 9 in Powell, Wyo. and Sheridan College Saturday, September 10 in Sheridan, Wyo.
