OJC to celebrate 75 years of excellence in education Sept. 3 & 4
Schedule of events
Preparations are wrapping up for the 75th Anniversary Homecoming Reunion to be held September 3 & 4, 2016.
“Our hope is to bring back alumni from every era to share stories of their time and catch up with classmates,” said Sue Samaniego, director of communications and public relations for OJC. “We already have RSVPs from alums from almost every decade, several coming from out of state or out of the area.”
Friday, Sept. 2 (pre-weekend activities):
• Rattler Volleyball will play in the Otero Classic in McDivitt Center Gym at noon and 6 p.m., with other teams being showcased throughout the day as well.
• TRiO Student Support Services program will host an alumni open house from 3 – 5 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 3:
• Ratter Volleyball continues play in the Otero Classic in McDivitt Center Gym with games at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
• The OJC archives will be on display in the Koshare Kiva from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• Lady Rattler Soccer takes on Northeastern Junior College at 1:30 p.m. at Tiger Field at La Junta High School.
• Rattler Men’s Soccer takes on Northeastern Junior College at 4 p.m. at Tiger Field.
• A barbecue dinner will be served from 6 – 7:30 p.m. on the lawn between McDivitt and McBride Halls. Tickets for the dinner are $10 per person and should be reserved in advance by calling Sue Samaniego at 719-384-6821 or reserving tickets at www.ojc.edu.
• A dance/social will finish out the day from 8 p.m. to midnight in the McDivitt Hall parking lot.
Sunday, Sept. 4:
• The OJC Foundation Reception will be held in the Student Center Banquet Room from 9 – 11 a.m. Coffee, tea and light refreshments will be served.
• The OJC Archives will be on display in the Koshare Kiva from 9 a.m. to noon.
• A birthday party featuring Minute to Win It Challenges and cake and ice cream will be held in McDivitt Center Gym from 1 – 3 p.m.
All activities are free of charge except for the barbecue dinner, as noted above.
Throughout the weekend tours of campus will be available to those who would like to see the changes to campus or take a memory walk through the halls of campus buildings. Student Ambassadors and OJC staff will serve as guides.
Groups of friends from specific graduation years, dorm floor groups, specific athletic groups, or graduates of specific programs can receive assistance in setting up smaller, specific reunions throughout the weekend by contacting Sue Samaniego at (719)384-6821 or susan.samaniego@ojc.edu.
