Otero Junior College Rodeo continues success

Otero Junior College Rodeo competed last weekend in Fort Collins at the Colorado State University Regional Rodeo for their third spring season rodeo in the central rocky mountain region. 

Leading the men’s team for the third week in a row was freshman Kody Aldrich (Westcliff). He finished the weekend third in the average in the bull riding, placing third in the long round and third in the average. He also finished in the top ten in the bareback riding. Aldrich is currently ranked third in the regional standings in the bull riding.  

Nolan Gillies (Boise, Idaho) and Porter Andrus (Rexburg, Idaho) also placed in the bareback riding competition; both finishing in the top ten. Mason Mardesich (Gridley, Calif.) placed in the top ten in the steer wrestling. 

Nicole Waggoner (Fowler) led the women’s team placing seventh in the long round of competition in the barrel racing. She won the championship round and finished second in the average. Waggoner is currently third in the regional standings for the barrel racing.

OJC Rodeo will compete next in Casper, Wyo. for the 61st Annual Ropin’-N-Riggin’ Days Rodeo at the Central Wyoming Fair Grounds on April 15-17, 2016.
