OJC to host Discovery Day on April 6
Event introduces prospective students and their parents to campus
Otero Junior College will host its Spring Discovery Day on Wednesday, April 6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. with an optional dorm tour at 1:15 p.m. The event will begin at 9 a.m. in the Humanities Center on the OJC campus.
According to Debbie Phillips, OJC’s coordinator of campus events, OJC Discovery Day is an opportunity for prospective students and their parents to visit the campus and explore the many options available to them at OJC as they prepare to choose a college for next fall.
“We have a beautiful campus and exceptional programs of study that we want to make sure anyone who is thinking about enrolling in college has an opportunity to explore,” said Phillips. “Prospective students will have a chance to tour the campus in small groups, led by our Student Ambassadors. These are current students that can not only provide great information about the college, but can also speak about what it is like to be a student at OJC,” she said.
Phillips explained that while on the tour, the groups will attend some hands-on informational sessions that will help them understand more about specific programs of study. Information sessions will also be held about financial aid and scholarships.
Guests who register for the event will get a free lunch and attend a Campus Fair, where they can meet with instructors, student club representatives, student housing and student support staff. There will be drawing for prizes during the lunch session. Students that are interested in student housing will also be able to tour the OJC student dormitories.
For those unable to attend Discovery Day on April 6, they can register for a personal campus tour anytime during the year, Monday – Friday at 10 a.m. or 2 p.m.
To make a reservation for OJC’s Discovery Day event, or for a personal campus tour, prospective students can go to: www.ojc.edu/visitOJC.aspx.
There is no charge to attend Discovery Day and families and guests are welcome. For more information, contact Debbie Phillips at 719-384-6863.
Tours of campus during the Discovery Day event allow students to learn more about specific programs of study and campus amenities, such as the Fitness Center.
