OJC Rodeo had good showing in Gillette

Otero Junior College Rodeo competed last weekend in Gillette, Wyo. for their second rodeo of the spring season in the central rocky mountain region. 

Leading the men’s team for the second week in a row was freshman Kody Aldrich (Westcliff). He finished the weekend third in the average in the bull riding, placing fifth in the long round and first in the championship round. 

Also placing for the men’s team was Mason Mardesich (Gridley, Calif.), who placed fourth in the saddle bronc riding; Porter Andrus (Rexburg, Idaho), who placed sixth in the bareback riding; and Brady McCurry (Pueblo), who finished in the top ten in the team roping. 

Leading the women’s team was Maggie Pomeroy (Evergreen), who placed fourth in the long round of competition in the breakaway roping, finishing in the top ten in the average. Nichole Waggoner (Fowler) is currently third in the regional standings for the barrel racing.

OJC Rodeo will compete next in Fort Collins at the Colorado State University Skyline Stampede Rodeo April 8-10.
